How to verify a carrier's phone number
Where the number of record lives, how changes show up, and the call-back rule.
What the public record shows
- The Census (MCS-150) holds the carrier's phone and cell number of record; SAFER shows them; CarrierDaily compares them daily and records changes with dates (values stored as hashes).
- The free lookup accepts a phone number and returns the DOT records whose number of record matches it, by hash.
- Call back on the number of record, not the number in the email you received, before sending a rate confirmation.

Questions
The lookup found no carrier for a phone number. What does that mean?
No active record lists that number as its phone or cell of record in the files we hold. Treat it as unverified.
