MC number vs USDOT number for brokers
Two identifiers, two systems, and which one to vet against.
What the public record shows
- The USDOT number identifies a company in FMCSA's registration and safety systems; the docket number (MC, FF or MX) identifies for-hire operating authority in L&I.
- A company can hold several dockets under one USDOT number, and a USDOT number with no docket has no for-hire authority.
- Vet against the USDOT number, then confirm the docket you were given belongs to it.
